The mood index for agricultural and horticultural businesses stands at 18.5 points in the second quarter of 2019. These points reflect the current mood on the farm. Glasshouse growers and poultry farmers are positive about the future and have the highest mood index. Arable farmers, outdoor growers, dairy farmers and pig farmers are less positive and have a falling index.

Every quarter a new outlook

For the medium term, greenhouse farmers and arable farmers are more positive than they were a quarter ago. Farmers and gardeners are more strongly divided this quarter about the expected future situation than last quarter. The index now stands at 2 points, approaching zero. That means that as many business owners are positive and negative about their operations for the next 2-3 years.

The Agro Confidence Index is compiled from the mood index. This reflects the current situation on agricultural and horticultural farms and the index that quantifies the economic situation on the farm for the next 2-3 years.
