The Limburg Agricultural and Horticultural Union (LLTB) takes a position at the interface between the agricultural entrepreneur and society. The agricultural sector is increasingly looking to society's wishes in areas such as animal welfare, hygiene, fertilizers, healthy and safe food, working conditions and landscape management. To function well, agricultural entrepreneurs must be aware of their position in society. On the one hand, they respond to what society demands of them; on the other hand, society must also understand what motivates them. The association supports members in good entrepreneurship and at the same time is an authoritative party that continues to emphasize and substantiate the general social importance of Limburg agriculture and horticulture.
The LLTB focuses on four themes:
The LLTB supports agricultural entrepreneurs on these topics, makes its achievements visible to society and can also mobilize understanding for the position of the sector or the individual entrepreneur. The LLTB stands up for good agricultural entrepreneurship. After all, farmers and market gardeners keep Limburg healthy!
Role in sustainable entrepreneurship in Limburg
The LLTB is constantly busy, especially with the challenges that are constantly coming up on the agricultural sector, with how to maintain future prospects. In a responsible way for nature, for industry, for the people who live and recreate there, but especially for the people who earn their living and take care of the greenery around us and certainly not forgetting our safe and healthy food. And we see more opportunities. In the production of renewable energy, for example through mono-manure fermentation, geothermal energy, circular agriculture and also in the developments around protein and fiber crops and sideline activities in the multifunctional corner.
Relationships with the 4 transitions
The four transitions of Shift are four transitions in which the LLTB is also fully engaged, particularly on the Energy transition. The LLTB sees Limburg farmers and horticulturists as an indispensable link in Limburg's sustainable energy system. Agriculture and horticulture can function as producers and carriers of such an energy system. The greenhouse horticulture sector is leading the way in this field and can play an important guiding role. In addition to the track of electrification via solar energy, wind energy, combined heat and power (CHP) and batteries, there is the so-called heat track. Within this, we are looking at techniques such as green gas from manure fermentation, geothermal energy, hydrogen and biomass. All of this is taking shape in the LLTB Energy Vision.
